Report of Captain W. Turtle to Hon. J. M. Carey, November 5, 1883
In July 1883, a detective from Chicago-based Turtle Detective Agency, John M. Finkbone, met with WY Stock Growers Assn President Joseph M. Carey and other prominent cattlemen to investigate cattle rustling in Carbon County and capture suspected cattle rustlers Bill and Clabe Young. The report is from William Turtle who fielded Finkbone’s reports and sent them to Carey. Finkbone’s communiques describe his capture of Clabe Young to stop him from rustling and return him to Texas where he faced murder charges. See article in WyoHistory.org for details.
