Mildred Stead Capron (1899-1978) was an avid traveler, author, photographer, and filmmaker. She was a member of the Society of Women Geographers from 1955 until her death. She was also a conservationist. After moving to Wyoming in her thirties, Capron lived on the Arapaho Reservation and wrote books about the Arapaho and Shoshone tribes. Later she moved to Moose, Wyoming, at the base of the Teton Mountain range and operated Capron Film Productions. Capron recorded many of her travels to places such as South Africa, Portugal, Ireland and various destinations in the United States on 16 mm film. She also captured notable scenes from the Big Horn and Green River Lakes, as well as examples of mining and ranching in Wyoming. Her films were mostly silent so that Capron could provide "illuminating narration" in the form of accompanying lectures, which she delivered in person. In addition to her full length films, she gathered clips that she would use to create her productions. A selection of her films and her compilations of clips are provided.
